John and I were hanging out near Heart in downtown Portland when we walked by Blue Star Donuts. At our last stay at the Mark Spencer we say a smug lookin' guy roll into the elevator with a huge box from Blue Star. Consider our curiousity peaked, kind sir.
We were surprised by the killer donut flavours. After much deliberation, I selected a key lime donut and John chose what I thought was a plain chocolate donut (boring!). It turned out it was cream filled. Bavarian creams have been a fav since they were a reward after a trip to the dentist. (Thanks for using food rewards mom!). This childhood nostalgia combined with the crunchy vahlrona nuggets had me jonesing for more. I would have downed 4 if it wasn't for the dirty looks.
Blue Star and I share same values of using quality local ingredients such as cage free eggs from Stiebrs farms, whole milk from Sunshine Dairy, and European-style butter from Larsen's Creamery. All the fruit that goes into the glazes and fillings are organic and finally, the doughnuts are cooked in rice oil. Their recipe is based off a classic brioche recipe that originated from the south of France and is made fresh every day, throughout the day! J'approve!
