Beauty and the Feast

June 20, 2013

49th P, with my Boo.

by Ivy Haisell in Vancouver

I'm here for the beignets..

I'm here for the beignets..

I'm here for the beignets..

I'm here for the beignets..

J's a coffee snob, but local coffee roaster 49th Parallel still makes the cut on his elite list of quality caffinators. I follow along dutifully - a rare occurrence in our house - motivated solely by donuts at the end of the tunnel.

At the 49th Parallel on Main Street, there's a Lucky's Doughnuts - a pet project of the 49th Parallel empire. It's one of the places that's riding the donut bandwagon but somehow manages to do it well. Interesting flavours, soft fresh donuts.. but it'll come at a cost.

You can order beignets as well. These doughy treats are famous in New Orleans, served with chicory coffee. At Lucky Donuts are cooked fresh and arrive piping hot dusted with sugar to your table with jam, creme anglaise, and pot au chocolate. Decadent and Ah-mur-zing.

Sweet hot heaven!

Sweet hot heaven!

J enjoying an Affrogatto - espresso with some ice cream/gelato. He claims it was sublime.
