My mother is the original food critic. Well maybe that's not quite true. Mothers in general may just be the hardest people to please when it comes to food, especially when it's food they can have perfected themselves. My goal was to please her.
For my favourite Uncle's birthday we decided to go out for Dim Sum to celebrate, despite his protests to not commemorate his ripe old age of 35 (maybe a little fib there).
After reading many mixed reviews, I chose Sun Sui Wah on Main St. I made the reservation in advance a few days in advance. We arrived early to confirm that we were on their elusive VIP list (much was at stake, but it was there) and was seated promptly by chinese restaurant standards (within 10 minutes). Street parking was readily available.
During our wait, Mr. BatF looked a little over petted due to the high levels of activity and low amounts of personal space so we quickly found solace at our table. My mother ordered from their menu which came complete with helpful photographs.
The food arrived quickly and was exactly as it should be. My favourite, the shrimp dumpling, came out of the bamboo steamer without tearing and had massive amounts of shrimp.
I enjoyed our visit, though I've been to other restaurants that are cheaper, have more variety or more daring menus this was a solid choice and I would return. And so would my mom.
