Recipe for Ramen Burger

Preparing the Buns

Boil 1 package of fresh japanese ramen noodle until al dente.

Rinse with cold water, then put into a circular mold, or lightly greased ramekins. As it cools, the noodles will take the shape of the container.

Preparing the Patty

Take some ground beef, and season with garlic powder, white pepper, and salt to taste.

Pan fry on medium hot heat, searing the meat and cooking to preference.

Put a tablespoon of sesame oil in the pan and fry up the disc shaped noodle bun.

Once crispy, golden brown, turn off heat and season with soy sauce.

Assemble burger, eat and enter carb coma overload.

Lessons Learned:

  • I used fresh Japanese Ramen from the grocery store thinking the chewiness would be nice, but I think you'd have more success with a good instant noodle.
  • You don't season it until after it's cooked bc it makes it hard to fry it - though spices would probably be ok.
  • The meat and sauce is flavorful... so the bun shouldn't compete too much. I put a little white pepper, salt and a bit of garlic powder in it..
  • Don't make it the full hamburger size. The noodles make it incredibly filling. Try for a small puck size instead.

Assembling the two burgers onto the Noodle Buns. I used a Sambal Oelek and Oyster sauce to give a little saltiness and kick... A clean mild mozzaa for some creaminess and a call back to the hamburgers original roots... I think beef, noodles, and green onions, chili and oyster sauce are great flavors together. Like Bibimbop.

Assembled and ready to eat. It's scary big.
